Our Story

This is us: Carlton, Tamara and Ema!

One Planet team

 

 

A wife and husband team and their dear friend. We met working on music festivals, where we witnessed firsthand the amount of unnecessary plastic that ends up in landfills and pollutes our planet. Travelling to stunning places that were ruined by trash and coming to terms with statistics like “by 2050 there will be more plastic than fish in the world’s oceans” spurred us on to take responsibility to make changes in our own lives. 

We were shocked by the amount of plastic we had in our own households when we actually stopped to take a look. That’s when we actively started looking for everyday swaps we could make. It turned out to be pretty awkward to source some stuff that should be basic. We found ourselves paying way too much for postage because we either couldn't find what we needed in Germany (C and Tam live in Berlin), or were paying prices that felt very high compared to non-sustainable alternatives. So we decided to take matters into our own hands and try to offer an accessible alternative, so that we can all make easy swaps to help the environment. 

We’re far from perfect and we still have plastic around the house. Perhaps controversially: we’re not anti-plastic and we don’t believe that plastic is always bad. It’s not the material that’s the real issue, it’s the way that we consume and use it. Even plastic bags, which have a terrible reputation, were intended to be reused again and again! 

So what we’ve decided to do is consume less, (ref)use (single-use plastic) more, repurpose what we can’t reuse and then, failing all of that, recycle. It’s only a start but if we all make small changes bit by bit, we believe that we can get to where we need to be.
Our dream is to offer fuss-free plastic-free alternatives to everyday household items that we can all afford. 
We’re on a learning journey and wholeheartedly welcome any ideas for how we can improve.

We’ll be driven by the planet, not the profit.

 We’ll offer only the most sustainable products that we use ourselves and send them to you with the least amount of packaging. We will always avoid products with plastic in them wherever there is a reasonable alternative. We will always keep our margins as low as we can so that we can keep our prices fair and affordable.

We won’t preach.

 We’re not perfect and we don’t expect you to be. We’re trying to make small changes to our habits that have a lasting positive impact and help you do the same. Just do what you can, when you can, and that’s enough for us!

We’ll keep it real.

 We are constantly learning and we’re bound to make mistakes. We’ll be as open as we can and share our journey with you, which includes our ups as well as our downs. Above all, we’ll always act with integrity and try our best to live and work according to our values, even when it’s hard.
